From its earliest days, Freemasonry has always promoted charitable work. There are few organisations that concentrate so much on raising funds internally.
Did you know Freemasons in England and Wales are second only to the National Lottery in giving to charitable causes. Freemasons donated over £33 million in 2017 and 44 million in 2018
Temple Island Lodge supports a different main charity each year, as chosen by the master of the year. It’s usual to select one local and relevant to Henley on Thames.
In 2021 the WM has chosen to support two good causes. Firstly, the Oxfordshire Festival which is raising funds for the MCF, or Masonic Charitable foundation. The MCF in turn distributes the funds collected from Freemasons all over the country to deserving causes countrywide. Secondly, we are supporting Riding for the Disabled, a fantastic local charity based just outside Henley.
The main charity to be supported by Temple Island Lodge as chosen by the master for 2018 was the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
The Headway organisation was supported in 2017 as the master of that year’s choice, but still continues to receive support during this masonic year.
